DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Your responsibilities will also encompass assisting in the coordination, implementation, and delivery of professional development workshops aimed at enriching teachers' skills. This will involve collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to develop teacher in-service programs and workshops that align with the goals of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on both regional and statewide levels. Additionally, you will provide administrative support to environmental education grant recipients, which may include leveraging technology for training purposes, such as conducting webinars and utilizing social media platforms.

You will also be tasked with updating and enhancing the content of DEP’s environmental education-related website, as well as promoting the DEP Falcon Program. This includes maintaining the Falcon Cam and assisting with workshops and programs through online engagement and social media outreach. Furthermore, you will support the Environmental Education and Information Center located at the Rachel Carson State Office Building by helping to develop and implement new exhibits and upgrades, while also welcoming visiting groups and providing informative tours of the center. It is essential to demonstrate a thorough understanding of DEP educational products to ensure they are revised and updated in accordance with DEP policies, program initiatives, and PDE mandates. Establishing and nurturing collaborative relationships with PDE intermediate units and colleges will be crucial for promoting in-service teacher training opportunities. You will also coordinate the dissemination of in-service educational materials with PDE, DCNR, home school networks, the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Education, and the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts. Conducting needs assessments and gap analyses related to curriculum tools for environmental education topics in Pennsylvania will be part of your responsibilities, as will providing technical assistance to DEP employees involved in the development of educational resources.
