Job summary

SoCalGas seeks an Associate Counsel II - Environmental (Employment Contract) in Los Angeles to join its in-house legal team. The role combines environmental, regulatory, and employment law with hands-on drafting, research, and policy work for a major utility.

The attorney will be embedded with management and project teams, handling discovery, contracts, and legislative guidance. A J.D. is required, with California Bar status or eligibility, and practice in California energy law preferred.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in the California State Bar or eligibility for in-house registration.
• Experience in environmental, regulatory, and/or utility law.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analysis on laws, regulations, and precedents affecting utilities.
• Draft and review complex documents including discovery responses, contracts, opinions, and agreements.
• Assist in developing policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate risks.
• Serve as trusted advisor on environmental, ethics, industrial safety, and employment law.
• Provide counsel on draft legislation, contributing to regulatory policy and legislative analyses.
