Job summary

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a Compliance Officer for the Pocatello Regional Office. The role focuses on remediation and hazardous waste compliance, including evaluating releases against state rules and EPA screening levels.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in natural resources or related fields and 4+ years of environmental program experience; a master's degree with reduced experience is also acceptable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physical/biological sciences, political science, business or public administration, engineering, or related natural resources management field, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• At least four years' experience managing environmental/regulatory projects with planning and technical guidance to staff/public.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate releases against Ground Water Quality Rule and related IDs to determine remedial action.
• Follow up on petroleum, chemical, hazardous, and deleterious material releases and public complaints.
• Coordinate remediation of releases from non-underground storage tanks and review remediation plans.
• Compare sample concentrations with EPA screening levels or risk assessments.
• Prepare and file monthly progress reports; maintain documentation in the DEQ system.
• Conduct hazardous waste inspections and enforce Hazardous Waste Act requirements.
