Job summary

Clean Harbors in Illinois is seeking a Manager Environmental Compliance Programs to oversee day-to-day regulatory compliance and environmental health and safety functions across sites. The role requires a BS in Environmental Science or Engineering, 5+ years of regulatory experience, and strong communication skills; DOT and EPA regulations experience a must.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science or Engineering required or preferred.
  • 5+ years of compliance experience or related field.
  • Knowledge of DOT and EPA laws/regulations required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills (MS Office).

Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting safely.
  • Conducts formal and systematic reviews of company systems to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations for environmental affairs and health and safety.
  • Identifies problems and recommends corrections; prioritizes and follows up on corrections for non-compliance.
  • Advises field staff on measures to correct or minimize non-compliant activities related to environmental regulations.
  • Prepares reports and documents for regulatory agencies and management.
  • Maintains internal regulatory ID validation systems.
  • Maintains compliance with USEPA registration to produce SKS manifests and manages shipment forms inventory at multiple locations.
  • Provides responses to compliance, sales, field personnel and customers concerning federal, state and local environmental regulations.
  • Performs audits of internal and external facilities to ensure effectiveness of compliance programs.
  • Performs other assignments as assigned by management

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner always.

  • Advises field staff regarding procedural and operational measures to be taken to correct or minimize non-compliant activities about environmental regulations.

Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Environmental Science or Engineering preferred
  • 5+ Years of compliance/company experience
  • Alternate combinations of education and experience may be accepted
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws/regulations (required)
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent PC Skills / MS Office
  • Must be based at a company location – either corporate office or branch location (SK, BPS, TFI, CYN, EM etc.)
