Environmental Compliance Leader

Full Time Engineer WAYNESBORO, VA, US

Location: Waynesboro, VA, USA

We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Leader who will implement and maintain compliance for all environmental programs at the manufacturing and R&D site based in Waynesboro, VA. The candidate will be a self‑starter and an advocate for environmental excellence and sustainable production.

Reporting to the EHS Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Ensuring regulatory applications, reports, and plans are accurate, timely and complete (e.g., monthly DMRs, Title V Annual and Semi‑annual reports, Annual Emissions Inventory, Quarterly stack testing, SARA 311/312/313 reporting, etc.).
  • Interacting with state and federal environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Managing environmental incidents by completing an investigation commensurate with the incident risks, creating effective action items and managing them until completion.
  • Ensuring emerging issues are identified and addressed to maintain environmental compliance.
  • Working with site sustainability leaders to develop and maintain metrics and sustainability goals for air, wastewater, and waste programs.
  • Interfacing with the site wastewater treatment plant operation and providing guidance for maintenance issues that are identified.
  • Supporting co‑workers to enhance their overall understanding of environmental requirements.
  • Executing responsibilities with excellence in EHS and compliance.
Qualifications (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science/Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in environmental compliance (air, wastewater, and waste permitting/management) in an industrial or consulting environment, or commensurate experience such as relevant internships, co‑ops, or closely related roles.
  • Demonstrated excellence in ethics, compliance, and EH&S performance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that produce outstanding results.
  • Motivated and effective contributor in a collaborative, diverse team environment.
  • Creative, entrepreneurial spirit driven by a passion for innovation and focused by business goals.
  • Effective problem solver with strong observation and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience communicating verbally and in writing with environmental regulatory agencies.
Qualifications (Preferred)
  • At least 5 years of experience in environmental compliance (air, wastewater, and waste permitting/management) in an industrial or consulting environment.
  • Experience with preparing Facility Environmental Module (FEM) for Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s Higg Index.
  • Hold a VA Class II wastewater license or equivalent.
