Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) seeks an Engineer III (NS) to perform complex reviews of erosion and sediment control permit applications and to conduct inspections across four programs here in North Carolina.

This role requires travel statewide, possible overnight stays, and a valid driver's license. You will advise staff, meet with applicants, and help advance project development and permit approvals with regulatory compliance expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and four years of progressively responsible experience.
  • PE licensure may be required by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
  • Experience with erosion and sedimentation control and regulatory programs is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Review applications and perform detailed engineering plan reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, rules, and policies.
  • Conduct inspections of DEMLR programs: Sedimentation Control, Stormwater, Dam Safety, Mining.
  • Provide engineering guidance and documentation to staff and clients.
  • Meet with applicants and consultants to facilitate project development and permit approval.
  • Travel statewide; overnight stays may be required; valid driver's license required.
