Job summary

NRG Energy seeks an Environmental Specialist/Engineer to support environmental compliance across regional plants. You will evaluate data, inspections, permitting needs, and regulatory requirements to ensure adherence to laws, permits, and NRG standards while promoting environmental stewardship.

You will collaborate with site teams, document inspections and QA on emissions and water data, and assist with permits and regulatory filings. Travel to plants may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or related discipline and at least 2+ years of experience in the environmental field, OR Associate’s degree and at least 4+ years of experience in the environmental field, OR Master’s degree in engineering, science or related discipline.
• General knowledge of major environmental laws (CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, etc.) and their requirements, including federal, state and regional regulations and policies.
• General knowledge of industrial plant operations and the associated environmental compliance programs.

Responsibilities

• Support and complement existing regional and plant compliance efforts with established teams.
• Document facility inspections and regulatory certifications; participate in regulatory inspections.
• Evaluate test reports, data, and procedures for compliance with regulatory requirements and NRG standards.
• Respond to environmental events at NRG facilities as required.
• Coordinate QA reviews of emissions data from CEMS and monitoring plans.
• Coordinate QA reviews of water discharge monitoring data and plans.
• Develop expertise in data acquisition and handling software; analyze data trends.
• Assist with obtaining new environmental permits and administrative filings.
• Support corporate environmental initiatives and maintain corporate environmental stewardship.
