Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Chemist 1 to analyze environmental samples using specialized equipment, focusing on Gross Alpha, Gross Beta, Radium-228, and Gas Flow Proportional Counter methods. This role emphasizes data interpretation, QA/QC, and collaboration within the Organic, Radiation, and Biological Services Division.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a degree including 30 chemistry/biochemistry credits.
Educational requirements may be met within three months of graduation.

Responsibilities

Analyze and interpret data from environmental samples to ensure reliable results.
Organize samples for processing and prepare reagents, standards, spikes, and quality control measures.
Perform preventative maintenance on analytical instruments and coordinate repairs with service technicians.
Conduct QA/QC studies and ensure compliance with current methods, procedures, and standards.
Assist with adapting, validating, and documenting analytical methods under supervision.
Train analysts and interns in correct methodologies and cross-train to learn other sections.
Maintain a detailed lab notebook and manage data entry and backup in records systems.
