Environmental Analyst, Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering

Join to apply for the Environmental Analyst, Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering role at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Salary: $72,190.00 (Flat Rate)

The Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ESE) employs about 100 staff members focused on identifying and reducing environmental and engineered hazards in NYC, including water systems and radiation control. ESE oversees systems such as HVAC, building plumbing, NYC drinking water, recreational water facilities, non-potable water systems, sewage, radioactive materials, and radiological equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct scientific research and literature reviews on water quality standards, emergency preparedness, new water treatment technologies, analytical methods, and surveillance tools related to PHE programs.
  • Assist in regulatory water quality surveillance, including sampling, data analysis, and compliance review.
  • Inspect drinking water facilities to verify operations and compliance with regulations, and contribute to inspection reports.
  • Review engineering plans for water treatment and monitoring systems, providing comments for regulatory approval.
  • Support testing and implementation of data collection and reporting software tools.
  • Contribute to scientific reports on compliance, surveillance, and regulatory review of water quality programs.
  • Develop technical guidance, factsheets, and recommendations on water treatment technologies, emerging contaminants, and recreational water safety.
Preferred Skills
  • Background in engineering, chemistry, biological sciences, data sciences, environmental science, or health.
  • Experience with engineering plan review, enforcement, investigations, water treatment, or water quality monitoring.
  • Adaptability to dynamic work environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate scientific and technical information effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
