Brigham Young University (BYU) Environmental Analytical Laboratory is seeking a detail-oriented part-time EAL Assistant Manager to process samples and support students and staff. You will work with soil, plant tissue, water, and biosolids samples, handling instrumentation, data entry, and safety training.

You will help maintain the lab’s quality-control program, coordinate projects from sample prep to reporting, and participate in training sessions to build laboratory skills across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, or related field.
• Experience with sample prep and analysis of soils and waters.
• Knowledge of analytical instruments listed.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
• Ability to apply quality-control procedures, maintain accurate records, and troubleshoot.
• Strong organization and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to follow laboratory safety procedures and applicable regulations.

Responsabilités

• Prepare and analyze soil, plant tissue, water, and biosolid samples using approved methods.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot FIA, ICP-OES, AAS, CN combustion, and TOC-L instruments.
• Maintain quality-control systems, review routine results, and document deviations and corrective actions.
• Assist with laboratory classes and train students and personnel in methods, equipment use, and safety.
• Coordinate project schedules and sample requirements with customers; communicate delays or concerns.
• Prepare analysis reports and maintain accurate testing, project, and instrument records.
