Qualifications

Job Summary

To ensure the organization meets internal expectations and the external requirements to protect the health and safety of our employees. This includes leading a team of EHSQ specialists to ensure all regulatory mandates for quality and environment are maintained within a safety-first culture. The EHSQ team will also provide investigative support/lead for claim management, claim mitigation and root cause analysis relating to any safety, quality, regulatory and environmental challenges. The EHSQ director is mandated to ensure compliance with process controls for documentation and audits.

Responsibilities

  • Point person for all EHSQ escalations that require communication and collaboration with the president of United States and Canada as well as liaison to Global EHSQ (Europe).
  • Lead, manage and coach a team of specialists focused on providing expertise, guidance, and collaboration within their functional disciplines (plant safety, field safety, regulatory, quality, continuous improvement).
  • Member of the extended leadership team (LT) to represent EHSQ and collaborate and engage across organizational leadership to support key initiatives and be a voice in strategic decisions.
  • Report monthly and YTD metrics for KPIs within scope for EHSQ through transparent and relatable means (various communication methods).
  • Review, revise, and maintain the necessary EHSQ documentation and record keeping in line with our policies and ISO9001. This will require close collaboration with the Director of Marketing, Human Resources, and Vice Presidents.
  • The EHSQ team will serve, at times, as lead/support investigators for claim management, and claim mitigation to reduce risk that could negatively impact our customers and our business. It is the EHSQ director’s role to ensure his team is well prepared for emergency claim response, critical thinking, appropriate escalation, and prudent judgement in the navigation of issues deemed urgent and serious.
  • The EHSQ team will implement any corrective actions and process changes from claim resolution learnings that can reduce risk for future safety/compliance/regulatory/environmental and quality issues.
  • This position will be part of the team assessing new business opportunities from an EHSQ perspective, as it relates to process changes, raw material changes, introduction of new technologies, new vendors, new production sites, etc.

Education and Experience

  • BS in safety science or related field with at least 10 years of experience with operational EHSQ in the construction chemical industry (preferred), or a similar manufacturing/construction related industry.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of OSHA, ISO, ANSI, TSCA, NFPA regulatory and reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills with a practical approach to provide the president US/CN and CLT with options to how we navigate challenges and solve problems.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a team collaborator (at times will need to lead calls and drive actions, while also able to play support role and collaborator).
  • Effective communication skills up chain of command, within peer network, and in representing the organization to external agencies and customers.
  • Self-motivated with a structured working style, discipline with deadlines and timeliness with administrative duties.
  • Self-motivated, self-driven, good coach and mentor, able to recognize and develop talent.
  • Strong critical thinking skills under pressure, optimistic bias, confident leadership through demonstrable actions and engagement.

Travel

  • Travel required to Sites/Headquarter in North America as necessary for meetings, training, audit, etc. (25-39%).
