Job Responsibilities

Are you an experienced EHS leader who is ready to move beyond simply managing compliance and help lead the transformation of safety culture within a manufacturing operation? We are seeking an EHS Manager who will serve as a key member of the plant leadership team and have a direct impact on how safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence are achieved across the site. This is an opportunity to build upon an established foundation, influence leaders and employees at every level, and drive meaningful, sustainable improvements in safety performance. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you will have the visibility and organizational support to implement programs, strengthen accountability, reduce risk, and create a culture where every employee takes ownership of safety. If you are a hands‑on EHS professional who enjoys being visible on the plant floor, partnering with operations, solving problems, and turning safety initiatives into measurable results, this role offers an excellent platform to make a difference.

Lead Safety Culture & Strategy
  • Partner directly with the Plant Manager and site leadership to develop and execute a best‑in‑class EHS strategy aligned with business and operational objectives.
  • Champion a culture of safety ownership, employee engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and EHS subject matter expert to leaders, supervisors, and employees throughout the operation.
  • Coach leaders on effective safety leadership and help embed EHS into everyday operational decision‑making.
Drive Risk Reduction & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify hazards and operational risks through risk assessments, audits, inspections, and employee engagement.
  • Develop and implement effective controls to reduce workplace hazards, injuries, and environmental risks.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive actions to eliminate repeat events.
  • Analyze EHS metrics and trends to identify opportunities and drive measurable improvements.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives that improve both safety performance and operational effectiveness.
Ensure Environmental & Regulatory Excellence
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs that meet or exceed applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Oversee environmental programs including minor air permits, NPDES/IUP industrial wastewater requirements, industrial stormwater permits, VSQG generator requirements, Tier II reporting, and SPCC plans.
  • Serve as the primary site contact with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and other interactions.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory reports and documentation.
Development of People & Engagement
  • Develop and deliver effective EHS training programs that engage employees and reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Lead safety recognition and employee engagement initiatives that positively influence behavior and strengthen ownership.
  • Conduct routine audits, inspections, and assessments while partnering with employees to identify and resolve issues.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response programs, including drills and training.
  • Work closely with Human Resources and third‑party administrators on workers' compensation claims, case management, and return‑to‑work programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or a closely related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, risk assessment, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Experience developing and delivering effective EHS training programs.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting EHS audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.
  • Working knowledge of industrial environmental programs, including air, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, Tier II, and SPCC requirements.
  • Strong ability to make sound decisions and drive execution in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated success influencing leaders and employees at all levels and creating lasting cultural change.
  • Strong cross‑functional leadership, communication, analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • A hands‑on, results‑oriented leadership style with the ability to build trust and credibility throughout the organization.
