Job description

Environmental, Health and Safety Manager

Leads the site's health and safety strategy, driving compliance, risk reduction, and safety performance. Oversees safety programs, incident investigations, risk assessments, emergency preparedness, and employee engagement while providing leadership, accountability, and direction to achieve operational and long-term business objectives.

Primary Responsibility
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs across manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Drive risk reduction strategies create a safe, healthy, and productive work environment.
Strategic Safety Leadership
  • Develop and implement site-wide safety strategies and long-term improvement plans.
  • Establish safety objectives aligned with business goals and operational priorities.
  • Promote a culture of safety through leadership engagement, employee involvement, and accountability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety performance and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead comprehensive risk assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Oversee safety inspections, audits, and compliance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, corporate standards, and industry best practices.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and implement corrective actions to address gaps.
Training & Employee Engagement
  • Direct the development and execution of safety training programs.
  • Ensure employees and leaders are trained on:
  • Hazard identification and risk mitigation
  • Regulatory compliance requirements
  • Emergency response procedures
  • Foster employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead investigations of incidents, injuries, and near misses.
  • Conduct and oversee root cause analyses for significant safety events.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurrence.
  • Analyze trends and proactively address systemic risks.
Emergency Preparedness & Workplace Design
  • Develop, maintain, and test emergency response and business continuity plans.
  • Lead preparedness efforts for fire, medical, environmental, and other emergency situations.
  • Support ergonomic assessments and workplace design improvements to reduce injury risks and improve employee well-being.
Operational & People Leadership
  • Manage operational objectives within the Health and Safety Department.
  • Plan, prioritize, and direct team activities to achieve short-term objectives and long-term strategies.
  • Set overall work direction and performance expectations for team members.
  • Coach, develop, and evaluate employees to build organizational capability.
  • Allocate resources effectively to ensure successful execution of safety programs and initiatives.
Decision-Making & Problem Solving
  • Make independent decisions regarding resources, priorities, approaches, and tactical operations.
  • Assess issues with moderate to large impact on costs, operational objectives, and business performance.
  • Exercise independent judgment on moderately complex issues that require multi-functional analysis.
  • Resolve non-routine and complex safety challenges through creative problem-solving and innovation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve results, reduce costs, and increase operational efficiency.
Administration & Reporting
  • Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of:
  • Incident investigations
  • Regulatory compliance records
  • Safety audits and inspections
  • Training records
  • Corrective action tracking
  • Communicate safety performance, trends, and improvement plans to site and senior leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environment, Health, and Safety Management or equivalent
  • 5+ years of EHS experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Possesses extensive expertise in environmental, health, and safety compliance, with advanced knowledge of safety engineering practices and a strategic understanding of risk management within manufacturing and service-oriented environments.
