Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking a Sheet Metal Worker to join the X32 Sheet Metal Dept in Newport News, VA. You will fabricate, assemble and install sheet metal components for aircraft carriers, submarines and surface ships, following detailed technical documents and safety guidelines.

The role requires successful completion of the shipyards welding school training, ability to pass a background check and drug screen, lift up to 40 pounds, work outdoors year-round, and

Qualifications

• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.
• Must be able to pass physical agility test.
• Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Must be able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to work overtime and on any shift.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, assemble and install a wide variety of sheet metal components on aircraft carriers, submarines and surface ships.
• Read and follow detailed technical work documents and procedural guidelines.
• Operate hand and power tools, drills, rivet guns, grinders and CNC fabricators.
• Receive training on basic sheet metal/tack welding and job-specific requirements.
