Job summary

City of Hurst, TX is seeking an Entry Level Parks Maintenance Worker to join the Community Services – Parks division in Hurst. The role focuses on maintaining parks, trails, and green spaces, and requires reliability, physical stamina, and readiness to work outdoors.

The position serves as a frontline contributor to keeping public spaces clean, safe, and inviting. As an entry-level role, you will assist with landscaping, basic facilities upkeep, and routine park maintenance tasks with growth

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous work experience in manual labor activities is preferred.
  • Candidate must have a personal electronic device capable of making and receiving phone calls and sending and receiving text messages.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
  • Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work overtime and weekends.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and essential job function screening.

Responsibilities

  • Arrives at work on time prepared to work the assigned schedule.
  • Works overtime as needed.
  • Operates motorized equipment such as tractors with attachments, top dressers, aerators, paint sprayers, and other related maintenance and landscape equipment.
  • Perform preventative inspections and maintenance on equipment as assigned; complete reports as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to City Code of Ideals and The City Way. Fosters positive employee relations and morale.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical and appropriate.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required for this position.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others during daily work.

Job Summary

When assigned to Aquatics: Inspects, maintains, and repairs all facets of the aquatics centers, including trash, restrooms, concession stands, offices; follows Texas Department of Health guidelines related to pool operations.

When assigned to Athletics & Park Maintenance: Performs tasks related to the maintenance and preparation of pavilions, restrooms, and other park amenities, including trash collection and removal. Performs tasks related to the maintenance and safety of playgrounds. Performs tasks related to the maintenance and preparation of athletic fields for practices and games.

When assigned to Landscape & Irrigation: Basic knowledge of landscaping and plant materials; assists with landscape installation and maintenance. Assists with basic installation maintenance and repair; assists in the maintenance of park and city facilities.

Essential Job Functions

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of safety rules, City rules, codes, and proper use of safety equipment.
  • Continuing ability to work any day of the week (weekends and weekdays) and long hours.
  • Basic knowledge of repair and maintenance of facilities such as restrooms, fountains, lighting systems, fences, playground equipment, and pools.
  • Basic knowledge of landscaping and plant materials.
  • Basic knowledge of irrigation and irrigation repair.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with co-workers.
Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous work experience in manual labor activities is preferred.
  • Candidate must have a personal electronic device capable of making and receiving phone calls and sending and receiving text messages. The City incorporates reimbursement for the business usage of the personal electronic device into the hourly rate.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
  • Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work overtime and weekends.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and essential job function screening.

Upon successfully completing the initial probationary period, the Entry Level Park Maintenance Worker will be reclassified to a Park Maintenance Worker I. Failure to successfully complete the initial probationary period will result in termination of employment.
