Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, perform visual inspections to AWS D1.1 or governing codes, and maintain inspection records.

The role supports an AWS CWI path and may sponsor exam preparation. Pay ranges from $28 to $36 per hour, with early starts and possible night shifts on industrial sites.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or 3+ years welding/inspection experience with eligibility for CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erector sites.
• Demonstrates careful, honest assessment of weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate UT/MT/PT NDT with the NDT technician and record results.
