Job summary

Water Otter Job Board in California is seeking a Water Distribution Operator I to join the City of Tustin's Public Works Department. This hands-on role supports safe and reliable water service by performing maintenance and repairs on the city's water utilities, meters, valves, and hydrants.

You will work as part of a team, follow safety procedures, and develop the technical knowledge needed for a career in water distribution.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years in water services maintenance.
• Possession of Class C driver's license and ability to obtain Class B within one year.
• Possession of or ability to obtain D1 Distribution Systems Certificate within one year.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work; adherence to safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Performs construction, maintenance, and repair activities of City water utilities systems and facilities, including meters, valve cans, meter boxes, and hydrants.
• Performs water valve maintenance and operating automated valves; maintains valve records.
• Repairs concrete after water distribution maintenance; patches sidewalks.
• Uses valve-turning equipment to isolate and shut down lines; communicates with the public during shut-downs.
• Performs water meter maintenance including installing, repairing leaks, and replacing meters; conducts service shut-downs.
• Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment related to water utilities construction, maintenance, and repair.
• Uses hand and power tools; follows safety methods and uses safety equipment.
• Maintains logs and records of work performed and materials used.
• Maintains cleanliness of facilities, shop, and work areas; secures equipment daily.
• Installs street barricades and traffic cones; controls traffic around work sites and events.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
