Job summary

Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is seeking an entry-level Veterinary Assistant under the supervision of the Director of Veterinary Services. The role supports licensed Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians in basic medical care, animal observation, and routine exams at the clinic facility in Montgomery County.

You will assist with pre-surgical physicals, medications, radiographs, and care for animals while ensuring compliance with state law and clinic practices.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of Veterinary Assistant experience; OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements.
• Must obtain Certified Euthanasia Technician (CET) certification and ASP Baton certification within six (6) months of hire date. Must maintain certification and licensure.
• Must maintain a current United States driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• May perform euthanasia of injured, sick and unadoptable animals by established and approved methods.
• Requires working knowledge of Ohio law regarding domestic animals, dog licensing, and dog control.

Responsibilities

• Assist higher level Veterinary staff in basic medical care and animal care observation.
• Prepare surgical and non-surgical procedures; assist with treatment, transport, restraining and basic care of animals.
• Administer non-controlled medications and vaccines; provide first aid as directed.
• Collect and prepare laboratory samples; radiographs; maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
• Communicate status and treatment options to clients; interact empathetically with the public.
• Assist with adoption processes by identifying suitable animals and communicating with kennel staff.
