Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an Entry Level Transportation Engineer / Traffic Engineer-In-Training (EIT) to join the Traffic Engineering group in the San Antonio, Austin, or Houston, TX offices. You’ll work on transportation and traffic projects using big data and software like Synchro, Vissim, HCS, OpenRoads, and SignCAD.

You’ll support analyses, studies, and design efforts for municipal, state, and federal clients, and collaborate with project engineers to deliver designs and reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• EIT certificate, or on track to obtain.
• Internships or work experience in traffic/transportation engineering.

Responsibilities

• Support technical analyses, studies, and design efforts for municipal, state, and federal clients.
• Perform traffic analysis tasks such as data collection, reporting analysis results, and writing technical reports.
• Perform civil design calculations, sketches, drawings, technical comparisons and similar technical work.
• Demonstrate proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads).
• Research design options and document findings for project engineers/managers.
• Assist with duties assigned by project engineers/managers.
• Maintain effective communication with project team members and clients.

Your impact

By joining our team as an Entry Level Transportation Engineer / Traffic Engineer-In-Training (EIT), you’ll be a key member of our Traffic Engineering group in the San Antonio, Austin, or Houston, TX offices. You’ll work on a variety of transportation and traffic engineering projects related to traffic operations, safety analysis, corridor studies, traffic simulation modeling, signal timing & operations, and traffic design (signals, signs, pavement markings, illumination, ITS, etc.). Work will be performed utilizing Big Data, with traffic engineering software including Synchro, Vissim, Highway Capacity Software (HCS) as well as traffic design software like OpenRoads and SignCAD.

What You'll Do

As a valued member of our Transportation team, you will support technical analyses, studies, and design efforts for municipal, state, and federal clients. Responsibilities may include

• Performing traffic analysis tasks such as data collection, reporting analysis results, and writing technical reports.
• Performing civil design calculations, sketches, drawings, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignments.
• Demonstrating proficiency in design software (such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Openroads, etc.), traffic simulation software like Synchro, Vissim, and other office production software.
• Researching design options and documents findings for project engineers and/or project managers.
• Assisting with duties assigned by project engineers and/or project managers.
• Maintaining effective communication with project team members and with clients.

Here’s what you’ll need

• Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent degree.
• EIT certificate, or on track to obtain.
• Previous internships or work experience in traffic/transportation engineering.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

• Previous experience with traffic software including Synchro, Vissim, or HCS.
• Experience with design software (i.e., AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads etc.).
• Previous experience with GIS.
• Familiarity with Highway Capacity Manual, MUTCD, HSM.
• Previous work experience with TxDOT and other Texas municipalities.
• Authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship, now or in the future

The base salary range for this position is $62,500.00 to $94,600.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
