Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join the Transportation team in Texas, delivering analyses and designs that improve mobility and safety for communities. You will lead technical studies for municipal, state, and federal clients, coordinating with planners, roadway engineers, and analysts.

Requirements include a Civil Engineering degree, 8+ years in traffic engineering, and a PE license or to obtain within 12 months. Hybrid work policy applies with competitive compensation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare traffic forecasts, travel demand analyses, and growth projections for roadway projects.
• Perform traffic impact analyses, corridor studies, feasibility studies and operational assessments.
• Conduct traffic safety studies, crash analyses, and countermeasure evaluations.
• Conduct traffic operational analyses using Synchro, HCS, and PTV Vissim.
• Utilize data sources such as StreetLight, INRIX/RITIS for decision-making.
• Develop IAJRs and coordinate with design teams.
• Develop signal warrants, analyses, and intersection improvements.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports and client presentations.
• Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support project delivery through scope, schedule, and quality reviews.

As a Traffic Engineer, you'll join a collaborative team delivering innovative solutions that improve mobility, safety, and quality of life for communities across Texas and beyond. You'll work alongside transportation planners, roadway engineers, traffic specialists, and data analysts on projects ranging from corridor studies and traffic operations to safety, multimodal, and transportation planning initiatives.

What You'll Do

As a valued member of our Transportation team, you will support and lead technical analyses, studies, and design efforts for municipal, state, and federal clients. Responsibilities may include:

• Preparing traffic forecasts, travel demand analyses, and growth projections for roadway and corridor projects.
• Performing traffic impact analyses, corridor studies, feasibility studies, and operational assessments.
• Conducting traffic safety studies, crash analyses, and countermeasure evaluations.
• Conducting traffic operational analyses using Synchro, HCS, and PTV Vissim.
• Utilizing data sources such as StreetLight, INRIX/RITIS, and agency databases to support transportation decision-making.
• Developing Interstate Analysis and Justification Reports (IAJRs) and coordinating recommendations with roadway design teams.
• Developing signal warrants, traffic control analyses, and intersection improvement recommendations.
• Preparing technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, and client presentations.
• Coordinating with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Supporting project delivery through scope development, schedule management, and quality reviews.

Here’s what you’ll need

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of traffic engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Experience with:

  • Highway Capacity Software (HCS)
  • ArcGIS or GIS-based applications

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

• PTOE certification, or desire to pursue PTOE certification.
• Experience delivering projects for TxDOT, municipalities, MPOs, or federal agencies.
• Familiarity with the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), MUTCD, and TxDOT design standards.
• Experience with traffic signal operations, timing, and optimization.
• Experience supporting corridor planning, Complete Streets, Vision Zero, or multimodal transportation projects.
• Task management or project management experience.
• Ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to business development efforts.

The base salary range for this position is $91,400.00 to $159,900.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
