We are a small team, so depending on your background, you may have the opportunity to contribute to various aspects of IT operations, from manual and automated system configuration to DevOps, Cybersecurity, and production server support.

PLEASE NOTE: Currently this is a remote position with occasional in-person meetings. However, preference will be given to candidates in the vicinity of Bethesda, MD, as a hybrid work arrangement may be established in the future.

  • Install webservers or other software to support internal systems and external client deployments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with customer passwords or remote connectivity
  • Perform ongoing system monitoring and backup capabilities
  • Configure, maintain, and monitor virtual machines (VMs). For example, you may:
  • Perform and track regular system updates
  • Conduct ongoing system monitoring and generate periodic system reports
  • Run and track security compliance scans and remediate issues
  • Monitor system backups, system usage, and resource availability
  • You may also work with the team to expand corporate IT policies and procedures, and generally improve our Cybersecurity posture
What you'll get out of it
  • Experience in a wide variety of Systems Administration tasks typically done, in larger organizations, by different specialists
  • The opportunity to participate in all aspects of the development of a enterprise capability, from research to delivery and maintenance
  • Exposure to the automation of systems administration, software build, and delivery tasks
  • An exposure to Cybersecurity and DoD standards such as NIST SP 800-171 and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)
What you'll need

In general, you should:

  • Want to participate in all aspects of IT operations from server maintenance to system monitoring and production system support
  • Have a desire to learn new skills and tools as IT operations and Cybersecurity continue to evolve
  • Be interested in Cybersecurity, and automation of IT operations
  • Be a self-starter who actively looks for ways to improve our environment, practices, and infrastructure
  • Solid knowledge of Linux, common Linux tools, and shell scripting – RedHat preferred
  • Exposure to Ansible, configuration automation, and DevOps tools and concepts
  • Experience with, or interest in, configuration and administration of databases and Web applications
  • Exposure to and strong interest in Cybersecurity considerations from a Systems Administration perspective
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and firewalls
  • Some relevant professional experience, preferably in Systems Administration, from a prior internship or co-op position
  • BS in Computer Science, or a related field; or at least 4 years of relevant experience
  • An ability to occasionally work non-standard hours, e.g. early morning, evening, or weekend, to support maintenance activities
