Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer to support senior staff in delivering high‑voltage substation projects. You will assist with design from concept through construction, help prepare design packages, calculations, specs and BOMs, and contribute to client presentations.

The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to schedules, and applying IEEE/NESC standards in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field; ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
Proficient in standard engineering techniques with strong communication.

Responsibilities

Assist design of substation projects from concept to completion.
Develop design packages for arrangement, protection, control and grounding.
Prepare calculations: insulation, AC/DC sizing, voltage drop, cables and conduit.
Create design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs and specs.
Apply IEEE, NESC standards; assist field inspections.
Support data collection and client presentations; assist QA/QC.
Ensure deliverables meet project schedule and client satisfaction.
