Job summary

The City of Galveston is seeking a Street Technician Trainee to support the Streets Division in maintenance and repair work on the street system. This entry-level role assists Street Technicians and Crew Leaders and prepares incumbents for advancement within the division.

Responsibilities include operating basic equipment under supervision, loading and unloading materials, performing light labor, and maintaining safety checklists while engaging with the public in a courteous manner.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Willingness to learn to operate equipment.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Basic PC skills and data recording abilities.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operating trucks, vehicles, and equipment.
• Support crews in loading, hauling, and unloading materials.
• Perform basic labor tasks such as cleaning, digging, lifting, and traffic control.
• Use hand and power tools under supervision.
• Maintain activity logs and safety checklists.
• Observe safety procedures and assist with work-zone setup.
• Provide support to Streets Division staff and customers.
