Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking an experienced School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties in designated areas at K-12 or higher education campuses. The role offers on-the-job training and welcomes candidates with limited prior experience, encouraging veterans to apply.

The position involves cleaning classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas, handling trash and recycling, and following safety procedures with chemical cleaners and equipment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No experience required and on the job training provided.
• No high school diploma, GED or college degree required.
• Prior customer service experience (preferred).
• One year of prior similar work experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned area, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices and stairways.
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas.
• Regularly check trash receptacles, emptying as needed, in all designated areas.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Notify lead cleaner or manager concerning the need for repairs or additions to building systems.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors and managers.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles.
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings and walls.
• Wipe surfaces in food areas and move or arrange furniture as needed for cleaning.
• Clean interior partition glass, windows and mirrors using cleaners and squeegees.
• Close seasonal tasks like snow removal when applicable.
