Job summary

The Tran lab at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston is seeking a motivated Research Assistant I to study mechanisms of neuronal resilience and regeneration in the visual system. The candidate will work under direct training from the PI to contribute to multiple projects, gaining hands-on experience in molecular biology, stem cells, gene therapy, disease modeling, and single cell genomics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree preferred in basic science or related field.
  • Experience with mice/rodents and cell culture is preferred.
  • Experience with DNA/RNA/protein for molecular biology techniques is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and conduct laboratory research experiments
  • Meet with the PI weekly and present regularly in lab meetings
  • Maintain an organized electronic lab notebook
  • Perform animal husbandry and related procedures
  • Provide support for animal surgeries and genotype records
  • Maintain retinal cell and organoid cultures
  • Harvest tissues for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
  • Perform DNA/RNA/protein extraction and molecular biology tasks
  • Monitor and order lab supplies and reagents
  • Provide administrative support for general lab operations
