The City of Marion is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Sanitation Technician in the Public Works Sanitation Division. This entry-level role involves operating a variety of trucks and equipment to collect and dispose of residential, business, and yard waste in Marion, NC.

Successful candidates will have a high school diploma, strong safety awareness, and the ability to follow instructions while working independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of the city street system and navigation.
• Ability to safely operate sanitation trucks and equipment.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards in sanitation work and safe work practices.
• Understanding of local traffic laws and best safety practices for collection routes.

Responsibilities

• Drives a pickup truck to each house on assigned routes and empties trash cans into the truck.
• Drives recycling and brush trucks as needed and transports recyclables to the county facility.
• Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and equipment; reports issues.
• Assists with manual tasks such as snow removal or spreading ice melt in extreme weather.
• Follows safety procedures and documents work activity as required.
