The City of Marion is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Sanitation Technician in the Public Works Sanitation Division. This is an entry-level opportunity to become part of a skilled team of professionals dedicated to the safe collection of waste and debris.

This position operates a variety of equipment and/or trucks in places requiring a high level of skill. Work involves operating a variety of tools, trucks and equipment and using a variety of trade skills to collect and dispose of business, commercial, and residential solid waste and yard debris. Employees may operate a pickup truck to collect residential waste on assigned routes. Employees may work independently or as a member of a crew. Work is performed in accordance with general and/or explicit instructions and within defined procedures. Employees perform work in accordance with OSHA and City safety rules and regulations and motor vehicle laws.Employees are subject to the hazards associated with operating heavy equipment including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, pinch points, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation and oils. Employees may be subject to the OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens. Work is performed under regular supervision in conformance with established standards and is evaluated for productivity, efficiency, quality, safety, and adherence to established standards.

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Graduation from high school and some experience in the operation of the vehicles and equipment used in sanitation work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
