Job summary

The United Illuminating Company, part of Avangrid, seeks an Associate Engineer – Protection & Control in Orange, CT. This entry-level engineering position provides insight into utility system operation and engineering areas with supervision and established procedures.

You will perform routine analyses, develop basic drawings, and learn design standards while supporting projects and customers in a team setting. Competitive benefits apply.

Qualifications

• BSEE required.
• 0-2 years of industry related experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine, basic engineering analyses, designs and calculations using existing procedures and processes to solve routine or standard problems while applying limited judgment and discretion.
• Identifies solutions to straightforward requests.
• Develop basic engineering knowledge.
• Prepare, maintain, and understand drawings (e.g. schematics, one-line diagrams).
• Develop and specify equipment, assemble documents and other requirements for basic assignments.
• Develop competencies with departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, design criteria and guidelines, applicable industry codes, and CNG/SCG policies and processes.
• Develops team effectiveness skills within own work team.
• Communicates information and responds to standard internal/external customer requests with assistance from others.
• Review standard internal/external customer requests.
• Works to specify and design systems to address basic situations.
• Apply design standards, industry codes, design criteria, guidelines and company polices/procedures to basic assignments.
• Works within technical guidelines and direction provided by others to meet deadlines.
• Contribute to projects or process teams.
• Develops an awareness of costs related to own work and understands the company's business management practices.
• May contribute to project or process teams.
• Perform basic equipment selection research and recommendations with supportive documentation.
• Individual should have a basic knowledge of engineering theories, practices and procedures.
• Able to communicate information, ask questions and check for understanding.
• Able to work in a team environment and learn key business processes.
