Job summary

Domtar is seeking an Entry-Level Laborer (Backstand Technician) at our Washington Court House, OH facility. This full-time role involves converting large paper reel stock into cut-size paper, preparing materials, and operating machinery while maintaining a clean, organized workspace.

The position offers the starting pay of $24.76/hour plus a $1.50/hour shift premium, with a 12-hour rotating shift schedule and a clear career path within manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude or previous industrial experience required.
• Able to perform physical tasks and work 12-hour rotating shifts.
• Basic math, reading, writing, and computer skills are expected.

Responsibilities

• Roll stripping, prepping, and loading.
• Operate cutting and other hand tools and perform physical lifting safely.
• Follow written or electronic operating procedures.
• Maintain general housekeeping standards and perform basic maintenance duties.
• Work safely and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Entry-Level Laborer (Backstand Technician)

Starting Pay: $24.76/hour + $1.50/hour Shift Premium

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Schedule

12-Hour Rotating Shifts

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Night Shift : 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Business Operation 24 hours a day, Monday through Friday.

Example of the 4-Week Rotation Schedule

• Week 1: Night Shifts on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
• Week 2: Night Shifts on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday off for a 24-hour shift transition, and Day Shifts on Thursday and Friday.
• Week 3: Day Shifts on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with Thursday and Friday off.
• Week 4: Monday and Tuesday off , then the schedule repeats with Week 1 .

Entry-Level Laborer (Backstand Technician) Key Responsibilities

• Roll stripping, prepping, and loading.
• Operate cutting and other hand tools and perform physical lifting safely.
• Follow written or electronic operating procedures.
• Maintain general housekeeping standards and perform basic maintenance duties.
• Work safely and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)

As you progress to Material Handler, additional responsibilities include

• Follow material transporting & stacking guidelines
• Support Shipping & Receiving operations, including railcars & trailers.
• Operate Powered Industrial Trucks, including
• Fork Truck
• Clamp Truck
• Dual Fork Truck
• Bale Clamp Truck
• Aerial Work Platform.
• Properly use hoists and dollies.
• Load and unload trucks, lay rolls, move pallets and other heavy materials.
• Complete daily safety inspections and maintain work areas.
• Uphold standards in safety, quality, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Mechanical aptitude or previous industrial experience preferred.
• Able to perform physical tasks and work 12-hour rotating shifts.
• Basic skills in math, reading, writing, and computer use.
• Team orientated with a strong commitment to Safety & Quality.
