Job summary

Bird-Johnson Propeller Company – A Fairbanks Morse Defense Company in Walpole, MA is seeking an entry-level Buyer to source and purchase materials, components, and services for marine propulsion systems used in defense applications.

The role requires attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and onsite presence at least 3 days a week in Walpole, MA. You will work with engineering, finance, and operations to meet project needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong negotiation and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with team members and suppliers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Execute purchase orders for materials, equipment, and services based on production and operational requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure reliable and cost-effective sourcing.
• Evaluate supplier performance and negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery terms to achieve the best value for the company.
• Research and identify new suppliers to strengthen the supply chain and support company growth.
• Stay informed about market trends, pricing fluctuations, and industry developments to make strategic purchasing decisions.
• Ensure all purchasing activities align with company policies and applicable regulations, including U.S. Government and defense-related requirements (e.g., FAR/DFARS, CPSR).
• Partner with cross-functional teams, including engineering, finance, and operations, to align procurement activities with project and program needs.
