Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation—Tanner, AL—seeks an Engineer I in Process Manufacturing to support upgrade, startup of equipment, and safety improvements. You will interface with contractors and vendors, contribute to standards and procedures, and help improve production efficiency.

Qualifications

• Four-year college degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline preferred.
• Two-year college degree with at least one year of engineering support experience.
• Entry level position.
• Has basic knowledge of theories, practices and procedures in a function.
• Knowledge of existing manufacturing systems including computer systems, steel making processes, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems and process control techniques.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
• To perform assignments with limited exercise of judgment under direct supervision of higher‑level engineer, supervisor or manager.
• Ability to operate a computer workstation and the appropriate software/hardware.
• Ability to work in a production‑oriented environment, to train and develop others, and to work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide support in the upgrade, rebuild, installation and start‑up of process equipment.
• Supports implementation of solutions to equipment safety issues.
• Provide technical assistance and an interface function on process, product, and maintenance problems.
• Interact with outside resources including contractors, equipment vendors, and supply vendors for assigned projects.
• Work within and assist in the development of the appropriate standards, specifications, and procedures, including but not limited to those required for production, technical, safety, and environmental activities.
• Contributes to OEE improvement activities.
• Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
