Job summary

Tarzana Treatment Centers, Inc. is seeking a Peer Recovery Support Specialist I for SUD to provide recovery-oriented services across inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings in Tarzana, CA.

The role emphasizes education, engagement, transportation, advocacy, and coordination of patient services to promote recovery and self-sufficiency. Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or above required.
  • License may be required depending on assignment (Class C or Class B).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral healthcare and/or providing peer support services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient orientation for new patients including unit tour, patient handbook, group schedule, and linens.
  • Assist in data entry into Avatar for admissions and discharges as assigned.
  • Supervise and monitor patient activities to account for patient locations; perform census counts overnight.
  • Conduct body and property searches per policy; maintain annual certification.
  • Perform UA testing according to policy; maintain annual certification.
  • Perform medication calls (Inpatient and Residential units).
  • Assist in daily cleanliness of the unit by overseeing patient cleanliness.
  • Assist treatment team with integration and coordination of health services across mental health, SUD, housing, and primary medical care.
  • Encourage patient engagement and self-management to promote wellness and recovery.
  • Educate and equip patients with coping tools and problem-solving strategies.
  • Assist patients in identifying strengths and resiliencies.
  • Help patients develop community living skills and access resources.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings; participate in continuing education.
  • Communicate effectively with staff regarding patient progress.
  • Maintain professional conduct in dress, language, attitude, and behavior.
  • Support the agency’s philosophy and objectives.
  • Conduct alarm checks during shift changes.
  • Provide patient escort and transportation to activities and events as needed.
  • Offer ongoing recovery guidance in areas like 12 steps, housing, vocational training, and employment.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality per policies and laws.
  • Encourage autonomy and independent decision-making.
  • Demonstrate consistency in supporting patients through various times.
  • Assist patients in overcoming negative self-talk and problem solving.
  • Act as a role model for wellness and recovery with mutual peer support.
  • Comply with code of ethics and patient rights; share recovery stories appropriately.

Education

High School Diploma or above
Class C License or Class B license (if required by job assignment)
