Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a patient care technician to provide basic technical assistance and supportive patient care across assigned areas. This role supports nurses by collecting data, assisting with activities of daily living, and ensuring patient safety in a hospital setting.

Applicants may have completed a nurse aide, medical assistant, EMT, or related program, or have two years of direct patient care experience, and must hold BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Completion of one of the listed programs OR two years of direct patient care experience OR current certification at time of hire OR nursing school enrollment with clinical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports, and documents vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture.
• Acquires 12 lead EKG.
• Performs and reports POCT.
• Assists with patient activities and care per plan of care.
• Provides for personal hygiene and basic care including bathing, oral suctioning, wound care, and ostomy care.
• Assists with feeding and mobility.
• Maintains patient privacy and infection control measures.
• Documents appropriately and maintains supplies.
