Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, assisting with non-direct patient care unit coordination for stable patients. The role includes supporting admissions, discharges and transfers, while practicing medical asepsis and maintaining patient privacy.

The incumbent will document care in the electronic medical record, communicate changes to the nursing team, and participate in safety and quality

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
• Must attend 2 weeks of training.
• Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematics.
• Basic computer skills.
• Preferred Acute care experience within the last 3 years.
• Currently enrolled in ASN or BSN program.
• Preference for those enrolled in nursing programs with at least one clinical rotation.

Responsibilities

• Provides, obtains or performs and documents direct patient care and activities such as: activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, intake and output, meal consumption, height and weight, blood glucose testing/monitoring, and other routine tasks.
• Participates in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives such as bedside shift report, hourly rounding, safety protocols and maintaining a clean environment.
• Accurately documents vital signs, I&O, and other treatments; reports changes to nursing staff.
• Participates in unit activity such as supply stocking and equipment cleaning and checks.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
