Job summary

The University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) seeks an Entry-Level Mechanical Technician to support testing of advanced composite materials in a hands-on laboratory setting. You will learn under experienced engineers and technicians while contributing to sample fabrication and testing activities.

Ideal candidates are eager to learn, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a team, with basic math, measurement, and safety procedures in a lab environment. Training is provided.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and use basic algebra/trigonometry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to record test data and manage records.

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical and physical characterization of novel composite materials.
  • Assist with fabrication of samples and basic dimensional metrology.
  • Help assemble and maintain mechanical test systems and instrumentation.
  • Environmentally condition test samples and fabricate composites via various processes.
  • Support general laboratory operations and training with senior staff.
