Job summary

S. W. Cole Engineering, Inc. in Sidney, Maine is seeking an entry‑level, full‑time field materials technician to support construction projects across Central Maine.

You will drive to sites, perform field tests on concrete, soil, and other materials, document results, and learn to read design plans. Training is provided during the onboarding process. No prior experience is required; typical schedule is Monday–Friday with occasional weekends during peak season.

Qualifications

• Basic math skills.
• Ability to write and type observations and test results.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Drive to construction sites and perform field tests on materials such as concrete, soil, aggregate, asphalt, grout, mortar, and steel.
• Lift, carry, and transport samples of construction materials, walk through sites, and use equipment such as wheelbarrows.
• Document test results and observations; write or type reports using a computer or tablet.
• Interpret design plans and specifications; learn to read and understand construction documents.
• Perform laboratory work or attend training sessions when not on the field.
• Provide support for safety compliance, including wearing safety-toe boots and following company protocols.
