Job summary

The University of South Alabama’s Department of Biological Resources is seeking a Laboratory Animal Technician I to support daily animal care on the Mobile campus. You will perform routine husbandry, monitor animals, document weights and feeds, and assist with sample collection and routine records.

The role requires reliable attendance and the ability to work variable hours in a regulated animal care setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in a laboratory animal facility preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides routine animal husbandry in accordance with written and verbal instructions.
• Feeds and waters animals daily.
• Changes and washes soiled cages.
• Cleans and repairs feed troughs, pens, cages, and other animal care facilities.
• Observes animals for signs of illness or injury and reports abnormalities to supervisor.
• Observes and records animal room environment and conditions.
• Collects and labels fluid or stool samples for diagnostic evaluation.
• Prepares and maintains routine records such as animal count, identification, weight, medication, and food consumption.
• Provides minor technical assistance and handles and manipulates animals according to instructions.
• Unloads and stores feeds and bedding materials.
• Regular and prompt attendance.
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
• Related duties as required.
