Job summary

Solano County is seeking an entry-level Juvenile Correctional Counselor to supervise and counsel justice-involved youth in a county detention facility. The role emphasizes learning to maintain order, provide counseling, and guide youths toward available resources, with potential community-based duties.

Incumbents will progressively learn crisis intervention, CBT group facilitation, and case planning while adhering to department policies and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Education: Completion of thirty (30) semester units from an accredited college or university, preferably in criminology, social work, psychology, sociology or related field.
• Experience: Six (6) months supervising groups in a detention facility.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and counsel justice-involved youth in a county detention setting.
• Learn to maintain order and teach classes, provide counseling and connect youths with resources.
• Assist in crisis intervention and conduct CBT-related groups under supervision.
• Document behavior and prepare daily observations and incident reports.
• Transport youths to appointments and support health and safety procedures.
