Job summary

S&ME, Inc. in Charlotte, NC is seeking an Entry-Level Industrial Hygienist to start a career protecting health and safety.

You will assist with hazardous material assessments, indoor air quality, and standard IH tasks, collaborating with CIHs and a multidisciplinary Environmental team. Ideal candidates hold a relevant bachelor’s degree, 0–2 years of field sampling, and certifications such as NC Asbestos Inspector or Air Sampler.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, or related sciences.
• 0-2 years of industrial hygiene field sampling experience.
• Active industry-related certifications (e.g., NC certified Asbestos Inspector; Air Sampler or Monitor accreditation).
• Strong business and technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform Hazardous Material Evaluations: carry out on-site assessments for asbestos, lead-based paint, and indoor air quality using established protocols.
• Produce High-Quality Reports: create clear, comprehensive reports for small to mid-sized assignments, with actionable recommendations.
• Support Project Scopes and Proposals: define project parameters, estimate costs, and prepare written proposals with straightforward technical requirements.
• Assist in Business Development Activities: represent the firm in local industry groups and assist senior personnel in client meetings.

S&ME is seeking a professional passionate about protecting health and safety to join our Environmental team in Charlotte, North Carolina, as an Entry-Level Industrial Hygienist.

About The Role:

As an Entry-Level Industrial Hygienist, you will help promote healthier, safer workplaces by identifying and evaluating potential environmental and occupational hazards. You'll support projects from initial field assessment through reporting and final deliverables while building practical experience in industrial hygiene consulting.

• Perform Hazardous Material Evaluations: Carry out on-site assessments for asbestos, lead-based paint, and indoor air quality using established protocols. Gather samples, follow quality assurance practices, and review resulting data to confirm accuracy and completeness.
• Produce High-Quality Reports: Create clear, comprehensive reports for small to mid-sized assignments, presenting conclusions and actionable recommendations. Work with senior reviewers to ensure alignment with standards and technical expectations.
• Support Project Scopes and Proposals: Define project parameters, estimate costs, and prepare written proposals with straightforward technical requirements. Support client engagement and contribute to winning new work.
• Assist in Business Development Activities: Represent the firm in local industry groups, participate in committees, and join senior personnel during client meetings to enhance relationships and broaden visibility in the marketplace.

About You:

• You have a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, or other related sciences
• You have 0-2 years of industrial hygiene field sampling experience
• You have active industry-related certifications a plus, such as:
  • NC certified Asbestos Inspector
  • Air Sampler or Monitor accreditation
• You have good business and technical writing skills

You Are Willing and Able to:

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

• Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40- 50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
