S&ME, Inc. seeks a Senior Environmental Engineer in Raleigh, North Carolina to lead environmental projects, supervise engineers and geologists, coordinate with clients, regulators, and contractors, and deliver high-quality technical work.

You'll apply your 10+ years of progressive environmental engineering experience, hold or obtain an NC PE license, and drive project management, field investigations, remediation design, and client relationships in a collaborative, growth-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive environmental engineering experience, including project management or coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
• NC Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
• Excellent project management and team leadership skills.
• Excellent business and technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental projects, coordinating client communications and budgeting.
• Plan and direct field investigations, including drilling and sampling, and data collection.
• Perform engineering evaluations and remediation designs for various sites; review calculations and lab data.

About The Role:

As a Senior Environmental Engineer, you will lead key environmental projects, overseeing client coordination, planning, budgeting, and technical documentation. You will supervise and mentor a team of engineers and geologists, supporting their growth through guidance and training. You will also help expand our business and maintain strong client relationships. This role includes both office and field work tied to environmental investigations and remediation, with regular interaction with clients, contractors, regulators, and local officials.

• Project Management: Manage projects ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with client strategies and goals. Coordinate with senior staff on complex technical issues and maintain strong organization, budget, and time management.
• Field Operations: Plan and direct multi-media field investigations, including drilling, sampling, and data collection. Lead field teams to ensure accurate site assessments.
• Technical Expertise: Perform engineering evaluations and remediation designs at landfill, commercial, and industrial sites. Review calculations, analyze lab data, and develop recommendations.
• Report & Proposal Preparation: Produce high-quality technical reports and assist in creating scopes and cost proposals following company and industry standards.
• Mentor & Engage: Support junior staff development and participate in professional and industry organizations.

About You:

• You have a Bachelor's degree in Biological or Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related technical field
• You have a minimum of 10 years of progressive environmental engineering experience, including experience managing projects or coordinating multidisciplinary teams
• You have an NC Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain through reciprocity
• You have excellent project management skills and team leadership skills
• You have excellent business and technical writing skills
