Job summary

Modjeski and Masters in New Orleans, LA is seeking an Entry Level Highway Engineer to begin a career with a leading bridge engineering firm. You will support highway projects from concept through design under guidance of senior engineers, using CAD and highway design tools.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Valid EI certification, or in process of obtaining one.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with technical staff to develop plans, specs, and cost estimates under guidance from managers.
  • Conduct highway design activities including geometrics, drainage, signage, striping, intersections, work zone traffic control, and TMPs.
  • Develop conceptual plans for feasibility studies.
  • Assist with field assignments, statements of interest, and technical/price proposals.
  • Review highway design calculations and drawings.
  • Develop contract plan details using CAD and perform quantity take-offs.
  • Communicate effectively in English, written and spoken.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants for topographic surveys, geotechnical services, traffic analysis, and environmental permitting.
  • Utilize CAD/analysis software such as Bentley MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads, AutoTurn, HydroWIN, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS

Position Overview

The New Orleans, LA office of Modjeski and Masters is looking for Entry Level Highway Engineers. This role offers an exciting opportunity to begin a career with one of the nation’s leading bridge engineering firms, working on challenging highway infrastructure projects.

Qualifications
  • Minimum a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Valid EI certification, or in the process of obtaining one.
  • Ability to learn and correctly apply relevant design guidelines and policies, including AASHTO policies (Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, Roadside Design Guide, Pedestrian Facilities, Bicycle Facilities), FHWA Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and State DOT specific Highway Design Policies and Guidelines.
  • Authorised to work in the United States.

  • Coordinate with technical staff to perform non‑structural engineering tasks such as developing plans, specifications, and cost estimates under guidance from project managers and senior engineers.
  • Conduct highway design activities including roadway geometrics, drainage, signage and striping, intersections, work zone traffic control, guardrail layouts, and Transportation Management Plans (TMPs).
  • Develop conceptual plans for feasibility studies.
  • Assist with field assignments, statements of interest, and technical/price proposals as needed.
  • Review and check standard highway design calculations and drawings.
  • Develop contract plan details using CAD software and perform quantity take‑offs.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and produce technical writing for design reports and feasibility studies.
  • Coordinate with teaming subconsultants for topographic surveys, geotechnical services, traffic analysis, and environmental permitting.
  • Utilise engineering CAD and analysis software such as Bentley MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads, AutoTurn, LADOTD’s Hydrologic and Hydraulic Programs (HydroWIN), HEC‑HMS and HEC‑RAS.
