Job summary

IAPMO in New Orleans, LA is seeking a Construction Project Engineer to lead roadway, interchange, and bridge construction efforts within the Construction Engineering & Inspection group. You will ensure compliance with LADOTD standards and related guidelines, and you will prepare estimates and daily reports.

The role requires a BE/CE focus, a valid PE license, and 5+ years of related experience. Strong communication and mentoring skills are essential, with site inspection equipment knowledge

Qualifications

• BE or BE with Civil Engineering focus.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is required.
• At least five years of construction engineering experience.
• Highway and bridge project experience (as described).
• LADOTD project exposure preferred.
• Operational knowledge of field inspection equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead roadway, interchange, and bridge construction projects per standards.
• Apply LADOTD/MUTCD/AASHTO guidelines and manage WZTC.
• Prepare civil cost estimates and daily inspection reports.
• Coordinate with team, mentor junior engineers, and review plans.
• Read plans and ensure QA/QC procedures are followed.

Responsibilities

• Lead construction projects for roadway, interchange, and bridge projects following LADOTD and local agency standards
• Apply the standards described in the LADOTD Construction Manuals and LADOTD Standard Plans, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and AASHTO
• Apply and monitor work zone traffic control plans (WZTC/MPT)
• Perform civil engineering cost estimates
• Communicate and coordinate effectively with other team members of the construction team, manage, train and mentor junior civil engineers as well as coordinate with other project disciplines during construction
• Complete work accurately and in accordance with quality control and quality assurance procedures
• Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and any special requirements
• Manage the preparation of Daily Inspection Reports to document the work performed; the manpower, material, and equipment used; field measure and calculate quantities of work completed and other pertinent information

Requirements:

• Minimum of a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Science with a concentration on Civil Engineering
• Licensed PE
• Detail and goal-oriented, and proficient in both verbal and written communications
• Five+ years of relevant experience in construction engineering
• Highway: some or all the experience with the reconstruction of asphalt and concrete pavements, drainage systems, roadway lighting and traffic signals; utility protection/relocation; pavement markings/striping; and related work
• Bridge: Several or all the following: concrete & steel demolition; repair of reinforced concrete and structural steel; steel erection; construction of reinforced concrete decks; retaining walls and/or substructure units (piles, piers & abutments); reconstruction of approach roadways; inspection of Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC) and related work
• LADOTD projects and SiteManager experience (preferred)
• Operational knowledge of field inspection equipment
