Muon Space in San Jose, CA seeks an energetic Hardware Test Engineer I to build and bring up HITL testbeds and EGSE used in mission assembly and testing. You will work closely with electrical, software, and systems engineers to translate flight designs into testbed configurations and debug hardware issues.

The role emphasizes hands‑on hardware, strong debugging skills, and a Linux‑heavy environment, with collaboratve teamwork and rapid learning in a fast‑paced setting.

Qualifications

• 2+ years hands‑on experience building, testing, or debugging hardware in a complex electromechanical system (internships and projects count).
• Background in electrical, embedded software, mechanical, or industrial controls.
• Hands‑on hardware skills: assembly, wiring, and troubleshooting with basic tools.
• Familiar with common interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
• Basic scripting/programming (Python or Bash).
• Strong problem‑solving and collaborative mindset.
• B.S. in engineering or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Comfort in a Linux heavy development environment.

Responsibilities

• Build, integrate, and bring up HITL testbed hardware for each mission.
• Design testbed hardware and next‑gen EGSE for power, command, and monitoring of satellites.
• Translate flight hardware designs into testbed configurations with the electrical missions team.
• Debug hardware/interface issues across testbeds with cross‑functional engineers.
• Maintain testbed infrastructure and respond when systems go down.
• Create and maintain documentation: diagrams, build records, checkout procedures.
• Coordinate with supply chain and production on testbed inventory and module builds.
