Job summary

The Biltmore Company is seeking a Gardener I for the Walled Garden. This part-time role (up to 20 hours per week) supports the Horticulture crews with general plant installation, maintenance, and related duties.

The schedule is generally 7am-3:30pm, with responsibilities including weeding, mowing, watering, and pest control. Qualifications include a high school diploma, plant knowledge, ability to work independently or in a team, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma
• Some experience with installation, maintenance, and care of annuals, perennials, and shrubs
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Good judgment and guest service focus
• Comfort interacting with guests in a guest service environment
• Able to operate small gardening equipment safely
• WPS certification within 10 days of hire
• Valid driver's license and minimum age 19 years

Responsibilities

• Perform basic ground maintenance: cleanup, trash removal, weeding, mowing, and mulching
• Assist with planting, bed preparation, and garden maintenance
• Identify common woody and herbaceous plants by name
• Report plant problems to supervisor
• Work weekends, emergencies, and overtime as required
• Operate grounds equipment after training with PPE
• Use hand tools like shovels, rakes, hoes, saws
• Assist with fertilizer/pesticide application under supervision
• Water plants using proper techniques
• Other duties as assigned
