Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking an Inspector to perform routine inspections, testing, service and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler, or Suppression life-safety products.

The role supports the approved Apprenticeship Program and requires physical labor, travel, and on-site inspection duties in Raleigh, NC. Responsibilities include documenting deficiencies, maintaining schedules, and performing minor system repairs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Able to obtain and retain licenses required by codes.
  • Capable of lifting 50–70 lbs.
  • Flexible hours including nights and weekends.
  • Willing to travel for customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test Electrical, Sprinkler, or Suppression life safety product lines.
  • Meet customer expectations during inspections and document deficiencies.
  • Represent the company professionally at all times.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgement/inspections with proper coding via devices.
  • Follow a structured inspection schedule and perform work in challenging positions.
  • Assist foreman in sprinkler system installation and minor repairs.
  • Carry/move equipment up to 70 lbs and work in ladders/scaffolding/high lift.
  • Enroll in Grinnell's approved Apprenticeship Program and maintain requirements.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines at all times.

Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines

How you will do it
  • Responsible for meeting customer expectations while performing quality inspections
  • Accurately discern and document deficiencies found during an inspection
  • Professionally represent the company at all times
  • Complete Service Acknowledgement/inspections with proper coding through communicating devices, such as laptop computers, smartphones, and/or hardcopy
  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule
  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.
  • Complete assigned inspections on time
  • Perform other duties as directed
  • Carry/move equipment and tools weighing up to 70lbs and be capable of performing physical labor
  • Assist foreman in the installation of wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge sprinkler systems
  • Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment
  • Be enrolled in Grinnell's approved Apprenticeship Program, maintaining all requirements of the Apprenticeship Standards
  • Have a positive attitude and the ability to learn quickly
Qualifications
What we look for
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes.
  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including on-call rotation, nights, and weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Willing to travel out of town.Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
Preferred:
  • 1 year of sprinkler inspection experience
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $17-$23 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience,knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with marketdata.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflectsthe target compensation for this role.
