Job summary

Kleinfelder's Austin, Texas office is seeking an Entry Level Field Engineer to join the Construction Services team. The role involves field testing of construction materials, preparing daily reports, and performing various inspection tasks under supervision.

Ideal candidates will have a civil engineering/geology background, an EIT/GIT path, and the ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors. Travel and night work may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or geology required.
• Within 6 months: EIT or GIT certification or ability to obtain.
• 0–3 years geotechnical field experience preferred.
• Must have valid TX driver's license.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Perform observations and testing on materials to verify conformance to plans and specs.
• Submit daily field and data reports summarizing activities.
• Conduct engineering calculations under supervision of a licensed engineer.
• Support project manager in achieving project objectives and timelines.

Step into Your New Role

Kleinfelder's Austin, Texas office is currently seeking an Entry Level Field Engineer to join the team!

We're looking for a person with strong initiative, who will perform routine to complex inspection and testing of construction materials in the field, in order to verify conformance to construction plans and specifications. The field engineer will prepare daily reports and data sheets and may be called upon to perform various tasks at the discretion of the supervisor. Duties will include concrete sampling and testing, nuclear moisture density testing, reinforcing steel observations, and more complex observation and inspection duties.

Working well in a fast-paced, team-orientated environment is a must. Strong communication skills are necessary to succeed in this role.

Role And Responsibilities

• Perform observations and testing on materials testing projects to verify conformance to the construction plans and specifications.
• Submitting daily field reports and data reports summarizing daily activities.
• Conduct engineering calculations under the supervision of a professional engineer.
• Maintaining objectives, initiatives, and overall goals set forth by the project manager.

Qualification Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology
• EIT or GIT or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• 0 to 3 years' experience in the provision of geotechnical-related engineering field
• Must have valid TX Driver's License
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work outdoors in varying weather conditions, traverse uneven terrain, and stand for extended periods.

This position may require occasional travel and/or night work based on project locations, client needs, and/or active project assignments.

Required Certifications include (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire):

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
• Radiation Safety (nuclear density gauge: Troxler, CPN, Instrotek)
• Texas Department of Transportation Testing Certifications

Kleinfelder offers a certification incentive program, including opportunities for additional compensation after obtaining industry certifications. In addition, we provide cross-training opportunities with the Geotechnical Department, including field logging, laboratory testing, and engineering support activities to support employee development and career growth.

Following an offer, candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.
