Job summary

Schneider in Sterling, IL seeks a diesel maintenance helper to provide general mechanical support to the diesel technicians, perform routine truck and trailer maintenance, and assist with shop operations.

You will assist higher skilled technicians, replace components, stock parts, stock inventory, and operate a forklift. Candidates should have an associate degree in diesel technology, a valid license, and be prepared to bring their own tools within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in diesel technology or related field is required.
• Valid driver’s license and DMV record compliance with Schneider standards.
• Experience with computer systems is preferred.
• Candidates must provide their own tools within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist diesel technicians on tractor and trailer repairs.
• Replace lights, tires, fuel filters, air filters, mud flaps and brackets.
• Perform routine shop cleaning and organization, and manage work orders.
• Maintain and stock parts inventory; use forklift for parts handling.
• Communicate with drivers and operations leaders about repair status.

Location: Sterling, IL, USA

Shift: Second shift

Schedule: Full time; Monday-Wednesday and every other weekend 12:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

Job overview:

• Provide general, non-diagnostic mechanical assistance to diesel technicians in Sterling, IL.


• Handle routine maintenance on trucks and trailers.


• Perform non-technical tasks, such as parts stocking, inventory counting and parts pick-ups.

Responsibilities:

• Assist higher skilled technicians on tractor and trailer repairs.


• Replace lights, tires, fuel filters, air filters, mud flaps and mud flap brackets.


• Perform routine cleaning of the shop and equipment.


• Use a computer to create, track and complete work orders.


• Maintain and stock parts inventory.


• Use a forklift and company vehicles to pick up, unload and stock parts.


• Communicate with internal customers, including other shop associates, drivers and operations leaders on repairs stances.

Skills and qualifications:

• Associate degree in diesel technology or a related field.


• Valid driver's license and meet Schneider's DMV record standards.


• Computer systems experience.


• Able to provide own tools within 30 days of hire.
