Job summary

Entrust Solutions Group is seeking an Entry-Level Electrical Design Technician to support electric distribution projects focused on wildfire mitigation and grid resiliency. You will draft designs, perform field assessments, and work closely with engineers and crews in a hybrid work environment.

You will gain hands-on experience in utility design, GIS, and CAD while contributing to safer, more reliable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in utility design (electric preferred) or related drafting roles.
• Experience with GIS platforms (GE Smallworld) and AutoCAD is a plus.
• Candidates transitioning from construction, land surveying, electrical trades, or customer service are welcome.

Responsibilities

• Design and grid resiliency work from initiation to completion with emphasis on fire mitigation and system hardening.
• Create, update, and revise construction sketches and joint-use proposals using GIS and drafting software.
• Perform utility design calculations (pole loading, transformer sizing, cable routing) to meet standards.
• Conduct field visits to various sites to gather data and verify assets.
• Track project lifecycles, manage materials (Bills of Materials), and coordinate with crews.
• Serve as a primary contact for customers and landowners to discuss design solutions.

What You'll do,

• Design & Grid Resiliency: Design electric distribution projects (overhead and underground) from initiation to completion, with a heavy focus on fire mitigation, pole replacements, and system hardening.

• Technical Drafting: Create, update, and revise construction sketches, drawings, and joint-use proposals using client’s proprietary GIS platforms and drafting software.

• System Engineering Support: Perform key utility design calculations, including pole loading, transformer sizing, underground cable routing, and equipment placement to ensure compliance with utility standards.

• Field Engineering: Conduct field visits to residential, commercial, and wildland-urban interface (WUI) sites to perform physical assessments, verify existing assets, and gather critical design data.

• Project Management & Collaboration: Track project lifecycles, manage material procurement (creating Bills of Materials), and coordinate directly with scheduling, project management, and utility construction crews.

• Customer & Client Relations: Act as a key point of contact for customers, land owners, and construction crews to communicate design solutions and resolve field conflicts.

What We’re Looking For:

• 1-2 Years of experience in utility design (electric preferred), electrical construction, or civil/mechanical drafting. Experience with GIS platforms (such as GE Smallworld), AutoCAD, or utility-specific design software is a plus.

• We also welcome candidates transitioning from construction, land surveying, electrical trades, or customer service backgrounds who are detail-oriented, comfortable with technology, and eager to grow. Training will be provided on utility design systems and standards.

Key Skills:

• Strong spatial reasoning and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or maps.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with internal engineering teams and external customers.

• Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project designs concurrently.

• Comfort with a hybrid work model that includes regular field visits in various weather conditions (including winter weather).

• A valid driver’s license and operating vehicle (field travel is required; mileage reimbursement is provided).

This position pays between $20 and $23 hourly and is an exempt position. The specific amount within this range will be influenced by the work location and various factors, such as internal equity, professional skills, work experience, and pertinent education or training. Benefits offered include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and retirement program with company match. Also offered are tuition reimbursement, voluntary life, disability, critical illness, accident and hospitalization plans. HSA or FSA medical accounts and FSA dependent care and transportation/parking accounts are also available. These benefits are subject to employee contribution amounts generally set annually. Full-time employees are eligible to earn PTO hours. May be eligible for discretionary bonus as determined by the company.
