Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Corrections Officer Trainee to join the Department of Corrections. This role provides hands-on training and supervised experience in custody, supervision, and support of inmates within a state facility.

You will learn essential security, reporting, and counseling practices, participate in formal instruction, and rotate through different areas of the institution. The starting hourly rate and benefits are described in the posting.

Qualifications

• Willing to undergo background investigation and CJIS compliance.
• Willing to undergo medical examination, psychological evaluation, and urinalysis screening.
• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.

Responsibilities

• Interact with inmates and visitors in direct and indirect situations.
• Monitor inmate movement and activities to maintain security.
• Make rounds, conduct head counts, complete security checks, and report unusual situations.
• Write and complete detailed reports.
• Respond to emergencies and act quickly and safely.
• Wear employer-provided uniforms.
• Participate in formalized instruction in sociology, psychology, court procedures, self-defense, leadership, custodial responsibilities, and the facility’s organizational structure.
• Provide guidance to inmates adjusting to correctional processes and agency rules/regulations.
