Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Corrections seeks a Corrections Officer Trainee at the State Correctional Institution Pine Grove. This role provides hands-on training in custody, supervision, and support within a state facility.

You will participate in formal instruction and learn security and counseling practices while preparing detailed reports and handling inmate interactions. A full-time schedule includes all shifts with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Inmate contact: interact with inmates and visitors in direct and indirect situations.
• Maintain security: monitor inmate movement and activities to maintain security.
• Observation: conduct rounds, head counts, security checks and report to a Corrections Officer.
• Work schedule: 40-hour week with shifts; overtime and weekend/holiday work as required.
• Training participation: engage in instruction in sociology, psychology, court procedures and more.
• Prepare reports: write and complete detailed reports.
